My Privacy Policy

Thank you for visiting my website at michaelfeerer.com. While here, you might provide your first name and email address — to download freebies, to sign up for my newsletter and occasional announcements, or to contact me with a question or suggestion. Or perhaps you’ll want to buy one of my fine art nature photos, in which case you’ll need to provide additional information for purchase and delivery.

I deeply care, like you do, about your personal info. Maintaining the highest ethics is very important to me. My “bottom line” is this: I will not give away, sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any other person, Internet site, organization — or even friendly aliens from another solar system! Ever. For any reason.

Period.

Personal data collected at michaelfeerer.com and how it will be used

Contact Form: When you submit my Contact form at this website, I will receive the data shown in the form. This information will be used for no other purpose than to reply usefully to you. If you email me directly instead of using my Contact form, our communications will be separate from this Privacy Policy. (But I still will never sell or give away your information.)

Newsletter subscription: When you subscribe to my monthly email newsletter and/or occasional special announcements, I will receive the data (your first name and email address) shown in the form. This information will be used for no other purpose. To opt out at any time, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter or announcement. To assess the effectiveness of my newsletter emails, I will periodically run reports that tell me who has or has not opened my newsletter emails and if they have clicked links in them. This data will only be used by me and only to make sure I’m sending you the information you want.

Photo/product purchases and giveaways: If you purchase a book, photo, or other creative work from my website, I will receive the data shown in the form — minus detailed payment info (credit card info, etc.) which only the payment processor (i.e. Paypal, Amazon, Pixels.com) will receive. This information will be used for no other purpose than to process the transaction correctly, to follow-up by email to ensure you are satisfied with your purchase, and (if you choose to opt-in via the follow-up email) to notify you of future similar offerings from me. To opt out of such notifications at any time, click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any notification.

Comments to my posts: When you leave comments, I will receive the data shown in the comments form, and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/ . After approval of your comment, your profile picture will be visible to the public with your comment.

Cookies: Cookies are files with small amount of data that is commonly used an anonymous unique identifier. These are sent to your browser and are stored on your device’s drive. On this site, cookies are helpful to prevent comment spam in blog posts. Via your browser settings, you have the option to accept or refuse these cookies, and to know when a cookie is being sent to your device. If you choose to refuse cookies, commenting on my posts may be a more cumbersome process for you.

Analytics info: This website uses Google Analytics, a service which transmits website traffic data to Google servers in the United States. Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. I use reports by Google Analytics to better understand the overall patterns of this website’s traffic and use.

Embedded content from other websites: My posts/articles may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who I will share your data with

Nobody. Ever. (Please read the red paragraph above.)  🙂

Data security

I value your trust in providing your personal information. This website’s data to and from your device is encrypted (that’s the “s” in https:// — for “secure”). Also, very strong passwords and/or two-factor authentication are used on all devices and servers that administer this website. Last but not least, payment info for any purchases completely bypass this website, going directly to a reputable e-commerce provider (i.e. Paypal). But remember that no method of transmission online, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure and reliable. So I cannot guarantee absolute data security. If a data breach somehow does occur though, either potential or real, you will be notified within 48 hours.

Your rights over your data

At any time, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you (i.e. any data you have provided). You can also request that I erase that personal data. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

I am committed to complying with all applicable federal and state laws relating to personal information, as well as the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation. Because such laws change frequently, this privacy policy will be updated as needed. You can always find the most recent version here.
