My last name is pronounced “Feer-er” (long ee sound) in case you were wondering. 🙂
Professional Bio of Michael Feerer
Michael Feerer graduated with Highest Honors in 1976 from the School of Architecture and Environmental Design, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA. He quickly founded an innovative architectural consulting firm in San Diego that specialized in user-based architectural planning using social science techniques — a new idea at that time. Over the next twelve years, he planned more than one-million square feet of city halls, libraries, hospitals, and some of the first outpatient surgery centers in the nation.
After moving to Bellingham, WA and becoming a happy stay-at-home dad, he authored Premiere with a Passion (published by Peachpit Press). The first-of-its-kind 415-page guidebook became a bestselling “bible” for the desktop video revolution of the 1990’s.
Based on the book’s success, a few years later he founded Pixelan Software (pixelan.com) and developed unique non-violent, organic visual effects plugins for videomakers and filmmakers. Pixelan is now in its 27th year. (Michael no longer runs it, having handed it off to his top software engineer.)
After his daughter went off to college, Michael for twelve years created evocative fine art nature photography close-ups while continuously exploring inspiring wildernesses in the U.S. West and world in an off-the-beaten-path way via extended pet sits to immerse himself in the real world daily life of the chosen locale. When the pandemic occurred, Michael decided to re-root himself in Bellingham to do something about climate change — leading to his formation and leadership of the Whatcom Million Trees Project non-profit for its first 4+ years.
Michael gives back in other ways too, such as by funding and designing a cool Montessori school in his hometown of Bellingham, WA, substantially suporting the Pickford Theater, and giving time an energy to various environmental, climate, and social justice causes.
He is a voracious reader and an avid wilderness explorer, having hiked the equivalent of 1.7 times around Earth over the past three decades. For more about Michael Feerer, please visit his website at https://michaelfeeer.com
